Troop 457 Scouts traveled to the Huntingdon, PA Lincoln Caverns to participate in the Exploration merit badge program. The Exploration merit badge was originally developed after the 2013 National Scout Jamboree by experts, including expedition medicine specialist Michael Manyak, paleoanthropologist Lee Berger, and astronaut Scott Parazynski. The Lincoln Caverns staff worked directly with them to develop this program, during which Scouts explore and tour two caves. One of the caves, discovered in 1961, initially appeared to be a sinkhole until the discoverer did some digging and found the caverns! This trip provided a great learning opportunity and memorable exploration experience for Scouts.
